Buying Pre-Owned Luxury: A Checklist Before You Order
Buying a pre-owned designer piece is different from buying new: the item is one of a kind, it cannot be replaced, and the listing photos are the only way to see it before it arrives. Work through this checklist before you order, and you will know exactly what you are buying and what to expect afterwards.
1. Look at every photo, not just the first
The listing photos show the actual item for sale β not a stock image of the same model. Open all of them. Check the piece as a whole, then the details: corners, handles or straps, hardware, clasps, lining and interior, and the base. These are the areas where previous use shows most, and they are photographed on purpose.
If a detail you care about is unclear, stop and ask. Contact us with the listing’s SKU and describe what you want to see. A question answered before purchase is always simpler than a problem discovered after delivery.
2. Read the condition line and understand it
Every listing states its condition: pre-owned. That means the piece has had a previous owner and is sold exactly as it stands. There is no grading scale to interpret β the condition line plus the photos together are the full description.
Judge the piece by its own photos, not by pictures of the same model elsewhere. Two previously owned pieces of the same model can look quite different, and that is normal. If the photos show gentle signs of use, that is part of this particular item, not a defect in the listing.
3. Confirm the brand and SKU
Check the brand named on the listing, and note the SKU β the unique code (starting with “LB”) that identifies that single item. The SKU is your reference for everything: questions before ordering, and any later message about the order. Quote it every time you contact us about a piece, and there will be no confusion about which item you mean.
Also note the independence point: LuxuriesCart is an independent reseller, not affiliated with, authorised by, or endorsed by any brand. You are buying a previously owned item from an independent store, not buying from the brand itself.
4. Remember: one of a kind, no restock
Every listing is a single physical item. “1 in stock” means that exact piece is available. Once it sells, it is gone, and the same item will not be restocked. If you are comparing two pieces, either one can sell while you decide. When you have checked everything else on this list and you want the piece, there is no benefit in waiting for it to come back β it will not.
5. Work out the full cost: shipping and duties
Orders ship worldwide from China via FedEx. The shipping rate is calculated at checkout based on the item’s weight and dimensions and your destination, and delivery times vary by region β so the rate and timing for your order are confirmed at checkout, not guessed in advance.
Duties, taxes, and VAT are separate, and they are your responsibility as the recipient. This is DDU delivery: the item price and the shipping rate do not include them. Before ordering, consider what your country charges on imported goods, so the final cost holds no surprise. If a shipment is refused, the customer bears the original shipping cost plus return import fees and any administration charges β another reason to be sure before you order.
6. Know the returns terms before you need them
Because each piece is unique and cannot be replaced, there are no change-of-mind returns or exchanges β for any reason. A return is accepted only if the item is significantly different from its description or photos, has a major undisclosed defect, or is the wrong item.
Three rules govern those cases, and all three matter:
- Contact us within 14 days of the shipment date. The window runs from shipment, not from delivery, so do not wait.
- Keep the security tag intact. Every piece carries a uniquely numbered security tag. Removing it counts as final acceptance β a piece without its tag cannot be returned.
- Wait for a return authorisation (RMA) before sending anything back. Returns sent without authorisation are not accepted.
When a return is accepted because of our error, we cover the return shipping. Original shipping costs and any duties, taxes, or VAT paid are not refundable. Refunds go to the original payment method. Read the full Returns & Refunds Policy before ordering, not after.
7. Ask before you order if anything is unclear
If anything on this checklist leaves you unsure β a photo detail, the condition, the shipping cost to your country, or the returns terms β contact us with the SKU before placing the order. A short message now can prevent a return that the policy does not allow later.
The checklist, in one line each
Photos viewed in full. Condition understood as pre-owned. Brand and SKU confirmed. One-of-a-kind stock understood. Shipping rate and delivery time checked at checkout. Duties and taxes accounted for. Returns window, tag rule, and RMA requirement understood. Questions asked before ordering, not after. Tick all eight, and you are buying with your eyes open β which is exactly how pre-owned should be bought.
